Snake Valley Pier

I needed a pier for Snake Valley and finally started today, nothing like leaving things till the last minute.
A few preliminary photos of the trial fit before final welding and painting which will hopefully be tomorrow, it's big and it's solid, perfect for a few days at the valley.

Strange to see a piece of optical gear with 4 legs instead of 3.

I'm thinking back to last year Mick, did you have a trolley set up with your mount as a permanent thing or was it just for mobility ? looks like your going to need something the same for this one.

the trolleys were built to take large tripods, this will be assembled on site, the lower supports unbolt so this is really semi permanent thing that could be used at home and still taken away if need be although it is very heavy.

By the look of it (and the weight) you shouldn't have a problem with stability. Top job.

Here the one I came up with , ok its only a drawing, Ive done the steampipe bit allready, just waiting for the flange with the radial holes to come back from the workshop.. Its a solution to the 17deg crisis.. Ive put all the adjusters at the bottom, really only for easthetics. this whole deal is on a concrete pier 900 high, "false floor in the observertory you see"...:).
