Narrowband NGC3372

I've been sitting on this data for a while and eventually pulled my finger out and had a go at processing it. I followed Rick's instructions from his tutorial a couple of months back. Can't say I understood what I did, or the notes I had made a the time. Definitely didn't follow all of the steps either. :eyepop:

I know there are some magenta stars in amongst the nebulosity, but his colour mask script worked wonders on taming them elsewhere, along with generous star bashing prior to the RBG combination. I've got some other NB data that I might have to have a go at while this is sort of fresh in my mind - I've tried to write notes, but that's hard to do in retrospect when a lot of trial and error was being used! :screwy:

Happy for comments and criticisms. First time I've ever got something that resembles the Hubble Palette out of NB data, apologies if it's too psychedelic for some tastes...

About 4hrs of Ha and 3hrs of SII & OIII - definitely could have used more data on the SII & OIII.

Excellent image David. A new and refreshing view of how it all interconnects. Surprisingly deep for the exposure time. We like the way the nebulosity toward bottom left looks like a pair of giant crab's claws encircling. Lots of good stuff there.

Turned out quite nice David, great textures and "waves". I do agree with MnT, it appears quite deep for the 3 hours per channel.
It looks like you may need to mask the brighter stars a bit harder when using the HDRTransformation, the Eta Carina has turned into a ring :P

I'm thinking it'll be something along the lines of a ICX814 chip found in a QSI690 or a QHY23 and a telescope along the lines of a StarpStar 65Q?

That's really good David. The blend is great. I'd just blur a tad the core of the very bright stars for cosmetic reason, then you have one for the pool room. Top shelf.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup :

A Tak FS-60 and my trusty QSI-583.

You don't necessarily need aperture for narrowband, but it does help if the object is bright ;)

The central star and surrounding core of the nebulosity were close to blown out in a 20min Ha sub. I didn't take any shorter subs to blend back in as an HDR. Next season.

Overall that looks great Dave, the background sky looks great, really gives the impression that the nebula is hovering in space, nice work. The only real slight negative for me is that the keyhole area is black and white, did it become a casualty of a routine to remove magenta from the image?

You think?...looks like there is some fine detail in there to me Dave :shrug:...looks like it has just been desaturated like the other small areas around the bright stars and groups of stars around the image :shrug:

What does the straight SIIHaOIII combine look like for the keyhole?

I love the size of the FOV on that combo, David, and you've done a good job of the processing despite being a bit rusty :) Try a repro with a few tweaks once you've had time to think about what you do and don't like.

FS60 is a classic widefield scope and definitely punches above its weight. A nice ad for one!
