G'Day
We had a black out last night (Tues) from about 21:00 for about 1/2 hour,I went out side to see the sky,and even though there was heavy cloud all around, it was still GREAT to see no lights not one.If only people could see what a difference it makes with no street lights, veranda, security etc: they would all be into Astronomy :) and think of the money they would save and burn less coal, ah well one can only dream.BTW the black out was in the Gosford area, maybe other places as well on the East Coast,as there was a problem with a power station further Nth.

The problem with blackouts is they never happen at a convenient time. Like here in perth I had one on sunday evening. But of course the moon was up. No good! Then the other common time is during a storm of some sort, obviously no viewing then!

I think us astronomers need some friends in the power station maintenance industry ;)

Roger.

Hey nighsky

Regardless - you will still lucky to have a Blackout - one can only wish that Albury has one, on a new moon and a clear sky (likelyhood - nil).

Cheers Petra

G'Day Roger
Just as a "by the way" we must have had a Astronomer in the railways, not sure about Perth or indeed the up grades to stations here in NSW East Coast as I haven't been on a train for yunks, but most of all the old train stations had lights with covers on them, so that the light was directed down where it was needed and not up,where it was not needed.I have often wondered about who he or she was in charge at the time of installation. Just a thought
