Jupiter in Daylight

Hi All, here is a collection of Jupiter IR images captured during the late afternoon some well before sunset as that seems to be when it's the best seeing. Several temporary alterations have been made to facilitated the exclusion of any stray light the most productive of which is extending a small tube inside the focuser so that only light from the secondary enters the camera I also have a large cardboard box placed on the ROR to shade the top of the scope.

Thanks Steve, did you notice the dark C shaped area next to the shadow? It spans two belts of Jupiter but interestingly it's shape is weird as it should be bent in the opposite direction. I have been tracking it for a week and it also appears in the 27th and 29th images. I've been told by those who study Jupiter's surface that it is probably a cyclonic storm hole but little else is known. Let's hope Juno sheds more light on Jupiter's surface makeup.

That's really interesting. Is the post production methodology any different? Do you have to fight to get more contrast out of it? xxx

Processing is very similar however after ninox (which I always use on the best captures) I use Registax with only a mild 3 & 4 wavelet perhaps around 20 ea then stretch the image both ends, ie: 255 down to approx. 220, and 1 up to approx. 14 this give an image similar to dark skies. then a very slight me in ai3 1.5 x 4 then a gaussian blur in the gimp after which I resize back to original capture size. that's all is needed with good seeing.

Excellent daylight route for imaging with good quality as well. Wind has been quite low over a few days as daytime wind can be an issue.

Nice shots there, what type of telescope did you use for these images?

You lost me here. What's ai3? Software Package?

Was this the 14" or the 20" scope?
