Hi all,
This is my first (rather ambitious) attempt at Orion using PS High Dynamic Range (HDR) merging of 14 x 60, 5 x 30, 5 x 10, 7 x 4, and 6 x 2 second exposures. Capture in APT, Stacking and aligned in nebulosity. Still tying to bring out a bit more colour and think i may be able to reduce the brightness in the trapezium region a bit more but still learning. 10"cf newt with NEQ6, unmodded canon70d.
Cheers

Good on you Ron, i have seen Orion starting to reappear in the early morning sky. You seem to be the first one to capture it as it begins to come back into view.

This was from a few months back - took a bit of work to get the hang of the processing and still trying to improve it some more.

Nice one indeed Rod, love the extended nebulosity.
There is a technique using layers to retain the Trapezium area.
Basically it starts by copying the original image and creating a layer which is then enhanced possibly with other layers copied in succession. Then 'rubbing out' parts of the layers to expose the less processed area of the previous layer beneath.
Tends to flatten the picture somewhat if you're not careful but allows retention of detail in brighter areas that may otherwise be washed out.

Hi Rod,
Awesome work! The results are of particular interest to me as my camera is a 70d and I don't intend on modding it for astro once I get going in that.
Just need to save a little bit more for an neq6 and i can make a start :)
Will be interesting to follow your results until I can make a start.
Jimmy.
