I have been amazed by the emormus amount of dust and gas that sourrand Antares and the its close stars. This photo has been taken in Wiruna during the SPSP.

Long perng 123mm f/7, Modified Canon 6D, 44 shots for 90 seconds.

The photos I took while out there are on my flickr account. Just search flickr mark bateman. What annoyed me the most was the amount of cloud basically for my last 6 months and it always seemed to be around the new moon. Getting my gear out in the next couple of days and start planning mt backyard observatory.

Lovely shot but it suffers from a common DSLR problem of white overexposed stars.

I think if I were doing DSLR imaging I would make it standard practice to take a series of short exposures just for the stars. I would process them separately and make sure they have colour in them then use the Bob Franke narrowband tutorial of how to blend in rgb stars in a narrowband image to layer in the stars layer. That way you get the nice high rez DSLR overall image but preserve star colours which is rare in a DSLR image.
