Hey guys
have you been out much at all this winter?
I'm in Perth and it seems there has pretty much been no cloudless day in >2months. Maybe there was one a couple of weeks ago which i couldnt get out.
You guys too? When will this end?!?

Hi poncho,
I have only had my scope a week an 8" dob, but have been lucky here in Geelong had some beautiful clear nights I have had the scope out 3 times in the week I've had it including last night.
Hopefully the skies will clear for you soon.

Mine is getting to be a little big to keep pulling out each night. I normally reserve it for the new moon. That, and the fact that I am rebuilding the balcony, and work is busy.
However, when I was first starting out, I'd be out every night that there were stars (and planets) visible!
I reckon if I went back to my early posts, I was constantly chirping in about the things I had seen in the big black.
@Poncho, if Perth was less windy (and wasn't so obsessed with street lights), it would be a perfect location for viewing. My folks live south of Mandurah, and the night sky there is excellent. Unfortunately, the mozzies down at the bottom of the estuary are very hungry, and very persistent!

Had mine out last week, the first time since June, weather was a little turbulent despite clear skies, I ended up shooting the moon for a bit

I hear you. , last Thursday night was a cracker here in Rockingham , clear with great seeing .
Pity it was very cold and had to work the next day and as usual it rained all weekend.
We just have to stick with it. .

Who ever this Murphy bloke is, they need to move him on (as well as his bloody law).
The last couple of weeks here in Northern Tas have been cloudy too. The nights where it has been clear, I have either had other stuff to do, had to be somewhere or the full moon killed the viewing.
Like I said, Murphy's Law.
I'm hoping to be able to get out as I am having withdrawals.

Last winter we were out viewing nearly every weekend. This winter has not been kind so far.
Adelaide has been clear a few nights a week I reckon. But too chilly for my liking!

Can everyone just stop buying new gear for a few weeks? That should help clear the skies a bit...

I've been selling some stuff. Doesn't that give us no-cloud credit points?

One of the best! I've got an 8" dob too - I can't imagine what it would look like in a 16" beast...

I've viewed it several times in my 10" Dob and it's gobsmacking! I can only drool at the thought of it in a 16" or larger.

Have had two of the most memorable nights of good seeing I can remember last month...this month has been a write off so far...too windy...too cloudy...why...why...why :confused2:
I’ve hardly been out at all this winter. There are too many things that spoil it for me so I’ve gone into hibernation mode.
If it’s not cloudy it will be freezing cold. But then anything under 15°C is cold for me. The worst thing I find where I live is the dew. It tends to come in early and it’s heavy. Almost like it has rained, dripping off everything. :(

Tried to head out yesterday as it was clear...got everything out then clouds zoomed across. Didnt realise they moved so quick :)
Also realised my collimation is out on my new scope, though i thought i had it right. Good trial run!
It actually wasnt cold at all despite being 9degrees, although i did rug up very well for the first time. Surprising, and encouraging!

my daughter and I had a rare night of good viewing a week ago - including some really nice views of Saturn with clear ring through our 4" dob in the backyard. About the only clear few hours in ages.
