How to create those astro zooming videos?

hi,

does anybody know how to create those zooming in videos like

we have all got some dslr widefield shots and ones at reasonable focal length. stitching and blending two or three stills would be doable with things like photoshop.

what software would you need for the movie zooming effect?

im assuming it is quite difficult.

It actually works :) The just using iMovie or anything along those lines you can do a zooming thing. Just about stitching it after that.

Adobe After effects wold be the tool of choice.

Hi Rusty,

I was browsing and found your quest for an zooming astrovideo. I too like the idea, sort of travelling through the stars. Any of the video editing programs will be able to do this. I use Pinnacle Studio 19 and am half in love/out of love with it. With the quality of the images that you (i've seen your gallery :eyepop:) and others on the forum have produced one could produce a wonderful zoom or fly through the stars. The hard part would be centering the images and blending at just the right time in to the next image whilst still maintaining a constant apparent zoom (flying) speed so that there is no distraction at the image change. It would definitely be a candidate for trail and error.

But why stop there, one could produce a video tour of the stars, with MUCH more effort by turning and zooming/travelling to the next system, BUT all very handraulic ! There may also be some 3D effects that are possible by altering the apparent focus in the image during zoom.

Particularly with the amount of video sharing that's now possible it would be good area to venture into.

thanks for the response!
i can safely say i haven't progressed this any farther at this stage... all things astro have seemed to taken a back seat with this year's weather :sadeyes:
I have little experience in creating videos (just basic time lapses) and didn't want to buy a program that couldn't do it - but from what you say i should be fairly safe no matter the program :thumbsup: I might get back onto the project when time allows.

I saw a hubble one of how they created the 3d effect (flying through the stars) up to a location. looks possible but super super super time consuming!

Hello Rus,

Here is an example I created last year from one image using Pinnacle 19. It's not the sort of astro travel you were speaking of (i.e: not into the page as it were), but this is an example translating across the page and BTW you'll soon realise it's not my image that I've used !!! Hope you enjoy it. It was created as a music video as a way of presenting the soloist where no video was captured.
