Rockhampton casual viewing

I recently got in touch with Navman (Adam) and we shared some quality 'scope time in Rocky.

We are planning to meet up again this Thursday the 7th and it would be great if other Rocky area AAs or enthusiasts joined us. We used the boat ramp car park off Larcombe st. which is a fairly good spot but open to better suggestions.

Lindon, good onya for starting this thread and calling out for fellow Rocky astronomers :) . Don't forget to welcome newbies to astro too - a bit of impromptu sidewalk astronomy.

Very casual and low key last night :) the seeing was good with excellent planetary details and earth shine lit Moon. Brighter DSOs and comet X1 were visible but details washed out by Rocky's glow.

While i was in Rocky for the recent viewing night, i extended my trip with a few days at Yeppoon. One evening when i was setting up in a car park Jason Howard was finishing a promotional shoot and he and his father from NZ joined me at the scope. Mine wasn't the only toy in the park though; Jason's pics are awesome :thumbsup: in this one the scope is pointed at Jupiter.

Hey guys. Looks like it's been a while since the last post, but I'm wondering if anyone catches up regularly in the Rocky area. I'm very much a novice at star gazing, but have a keen interest in space and a decent scope (I think) - a Celesteon AstroMaster 130. I'd be very interested in tagging along to a meet up to learn whatever I can.

i'm in Rocky now but will be gorn by next weekend. every day is a long weekend for me so if you wanna catch up this week i'm keen.

3 other local AAs have been in touch so with yourself and Leon that makes a good group for get togethers and will hopefully draw more in.
