Thanks Aidan, I enjoyed that. One question, how do you turn on and off the computer itself that is controlling it all? I can see how your IP Switch could power it up, but how does it get shutdown and restarted? I suppose you could have the power button pushed in on a PC system unit and it would come up as power was applied by the switch but for a laptop most of them seem to have a momentary power switch these days that needs to be pushed to start. You have given me some ideas for my observatory, thanks again.

Thanks Mike

so a couple of things on this. in the computer Bios settings you can set the computer to boot up when the power is turned on. this is particularly important because if you have a power outage then as soon as the power comes on it will boot up again. So, if you have that set up you can power the computer remotely with the iP power switch, you can manage the switch remotely through a browser without the computer being turned on. Having said that, for me, i just have the computer on permanently.

Great video and you have your observatory looking spick and span.
I always wondered too how people got their PCs to power up remotely.

Thanks Rob. the amount of leaves that blow into the observatory can be quite incredible. one time i opened the door and it must have been a windy night recently, it looked like the gardener was creating a new compost heap

Awesome Aiden :) I'm so jealous lol
What are the dimensions of your obs and the height of your walls ?
This is the similar set up to how I want my observatory but I just can't get anyone in this town with an open mind to build it for me :sadeyes:
As soon as I say I want a roll off roof they all think it's too hard and brush me off 😡😡😡 I need to find someone that has all these plans on how to roll of the roof etc with a step by step guide to show these idiots around here how I want it done it's so frustrating
I might have to get someone from out of town to come and do it for me I think

Thanks Jen, and thanks for liking my fb page :) . i have attached the sketchup designs for my observatory. you can download sketchup and do any measurements you want. i am not sure if you saw the vid of me building the obs but it wasn't massively complicated and i managed it by myself with some assistance from my dad. if you need any specific questions answered just ask.

Aww cool thanks Adian I will check that out 😜😜
Yes I watched both your videos they are very cool by the way
I need to play that to the single mined builders around here to show them how it's done 😀😀😎
I just need a better understanding in what I need to do for the roll off roof part the gate opener motor sounds like a cool idea
