A lovely mosaic Bert - what imaging rig (camera and scope) did you use to capture it with? I'm tempted to have a go at it myself - well at least part of it anyway.

Hrm, something really odd happening there. The dust is pockmarked.
Looks like unmasked use of the MorphologicalTransformation erosion tool?

Nice widefield look. A good reference image to see what part to image closer in. The dust is way more extensive than I thought.

I think I can see what Octane means by "erosion tool". At 1/2 to 2/3 full size the image looks amazing. There's lots to see there.
At full size many of the smaller stars look like squares. That's what I get when I use the "erode" filter in the Gimp. I find it better to upscale the image (maybe 4x or more - needs lots of memory) and then apply the erode filter and then scale back down.
