I had a cataract operation on my right eye recently. Now I can see in the distance and read a computer screen without glasses. I had to use glasses for both distant and close vision before. The new lens in my eye also fixed my astigmatism.

It is great for astronomy too, everything in my telescope is much brighter and clearer now. The galaxy NGC 55 can easily be seen in my 9x50 finder, which I had to focus for my "new" eye.

sounds like you had a great result there glen!
i am an optician and IOL's still seem to be a bit hit and miss to be honest as my practice do our share of post surgery refractions

Glad to hear of improved vision and that it's healed up nicely.

I'm as blind as a bat without my glasses. When I tried contacts, I was blown away.

But been too lazy to have to clean them, put them on, clean them again etc. and now my excuse is that my glasses are part of my persona. :D

Hi Glen,

Sounds like a fix worthy of the Six Million Dollar Man but hopefully at a
price with nowhere near as many trailing zeroes.

Best Regards

Gary

Just was reminded of a video I saw the other day... posted in a new thread "The Blind Astronomer of Nova Scotia"

A 12" with no cataracts is nearly as good as a 16" with them. :)

Could you please elaborate.?
What is an IOL and what do you do for repairing the problem
you mention?
I will need one done on my right eye in the next few years, and am concerned at the conflicting reports as to the success of these operations.
Cheers:thumbsup:

Ah, good to hear! I had my astigmatism corrected with Lasik years ago. Was scary for the first couple of months because my eyesight was actually worse while it was healing. But after 6-8 months it's wonderful. I threw away my glasses.

IOL = Intra-Ocular-Lens ie the replacement lens they put into your eye in place of the natural one you were born with...

Yes it is hit & miss really.
