Due to an unexpected upgrade I am (sadly) putting my much loved 10" dob on the market. This scope is barely 7 months old, purchased from Andrew's Communications in late March this year, first light was 1st of April. This OTA has a white enamel finish, and by all accounts has a superior quality and thickness with regards the paintjob on the tube, according to comments made directly to me by owners of other GSO dobs that were purchased prior to mine.
Included with this sale is a 32mm (2" barrel) eyepiece for wider angle views, plus one each of 15mm and 9mm Plossl ep's (1.25"), I'll include extra goodies as well, such as a laser collimation tool, and the custom fit foam dew shield that I made specifically to fit this scope.
But wait! There's more ...... :P (looking for steak knives....)
Being the Deluxe version it came with a Crayford focusser rather than the standard rack and pinion type, as well as a mirror cooling fan, and a right angle / correct image finder scope. I have upgraded the fan to a more efficient unit which I bought brand new, one that has more aggressively designed fan blades and so it pumps more air and cools faster than the original fan.
I have modified the finder scope with my own custom dew heater (and custom power plug), which is not really removable from the finder and I was therefore intending to keep the right angle finder and include an 8x 50mm "straight through" finderscope (silvery coloured) instead. If someone particularly wants the right angle finder we can possibly work something out.
This scope is in excellent condition, it lives in my lounge room when not outside observing, and it has always performed well for me. Most IIS'ers are aware of the reputation that the GSO mirrors have for great performance at such a reasonable price: I have easily differentiated the 5th and 6th stars in the Orion Trapezium from my very light polluted front driveway, likewise I have observed Neptune and Uranus (in fact every planet except Pluto - now a moot argument) from my back yard in the same suburban location. With dark skies and better seeing Pluto is also within grasp of this scope. With a 10" primary mirror it gathers approximately one and a half times as much light as an 8" reflector, and around two and 3/4 times as much light as a 6".
The dob base has a few nicks and scrapes in the black laminate material. The azimuth rotation mechanism has been modified with "milk bottle" washers to make it move more freely and smoothly. I had modified it with a lazy susan bearing but found that it moved too freely in that it would literally swing in the breeze, so I've de-modded it again in that respect.
Photo's will follow asap (I'm at work at present, the dob isn't) but I am listing this here now, and for the next couple of days to see if there are any takers - if not I'll probably list it on ebay this week.
I do have the box and packaging for the OTA and can send it all by courier - no idea of cost except it cost me $70 to have Andrew's send it up to me here, an hour north of Brisbane. We can arrange something for me to deliver it to within an hour or so of my location if required. Viewing demo's can be arranged if the clouds ever clear!
Asking price? $500, plus delivery / courier / whatever if required.
In the event of multiple prospective buyers the person with first posting to this thread wins, follow up with a pm to me if you like but post here first.
Cheers folks!
