On a rare clear night, or so it seems at the moment, captured 8 x 20 min shots of the Eagle nebula. RC8 and QHY8.

Would've been more exposures but some bizarre USB glitch on the laptop meant it started to download blank pictures ... and stop tracking the target. Too cold in the small hours to debug and fix - so made do with the first 8 shots! :-)

Higher res on Astrobin (http://www.astrobin.com/251467/).

Comments appreciated.

For only the first 8 shots it is a nice Eagle. Looking forward to seeing it with a more complete data set :P

Collimation looks pretty good now Paul. Stars look very uniform and detail is sharp. When did you get a clear sky in the last week?

Thanks Evan.

Thanks Marc.

Thanks. Hopefully there'll be a clear sky again before summer!!

Thanks Paul. I think the collimation is nearer now.

Friday was clear. At least up here in Golden Grove.

A very good photo Paul, especially for such a short exposure.

Nice composition as well.

Ross.

Thanks Ross.

Actually, can't take any artistic credit for the composition. Had the camera angle worked out for another target, then changed my mind at the last minute because of ice/dirt on the edges of the sensor, which would've obscured my original target!

And the exact positioning was just me finding a guide star for the OAG.

Bottom line: no artistic input at all :( But thanks for the thought! :)
