Hi All

Well you wouldn't believe it Brett is back in his newly reinforced home.
And you wouldn't guess where we happened to come across him.

My dear wife likes things organised well before the event, so she decided to go through the boxes of Christmas stuff in the back shed for the big day

We had two very large trunks packed with stuff, which were to heavy for her to move so asked me to lend a hand.
After much pulling and pushing we got then away from all the other junk in the shed.
I then noticed this oval shap up against the back wall, and bugger me dead it was a turtle.:eyepop:

I gave it a poke as it looked dead, and then it pulled it's head in, the rest is history.
How he got to where we found him is a mystery that we will never know i expect, anyway he is well and happy. I think.

I mean who would want to run away from a home like this.

Cheers Leon

If it was winter, id say it was trying to hibernate. Its spring so its probably looking for a mate you can get it one. Make sure its not too wet in there. Unless its from a rainforest, it needs local conditions. Find out where it lives in the wild, go look if you can, or search out some photos of creeks and dams in the area. Create that environment.

Its hard without knowing what type it is, sorry if I sound like a school teacher. Im glad its back!

Thanks for that Mickkk

Yea,i know what you are saying, we have had him for about 12 years now and this is his second attempt to flee.
He has the best of both worlds, a nice sandy beach area to lazy on, water to play in, and lots of grasses, rocks and all that a turtle gould hope for.
I just think he likes to play funny buggers at times.

Thats great to hear Leon, so glad he came home. I hope he's smart enough to never want to leave again.

We had turtles when I was a kid, they had an you beaut enclosure underneath the back stairs of the house that partially consisted of an old enamel bath tub (excelelnt condition, wish I had it today).

Every spring it was a "count the turtles" thing because every so often one of them wouldn't wake from their winter hibernation ... or would try escaping. lol

The "psych" ward of a certain hospital in Brisbane (not to get anyone in trouble) has a fabulous turtle pond, it has about 8 turtles in it last I sawm including a coupel of fairly big ones. The "guests" can sit on a big padded bench and watch them through a nice big window .... sunny, with shade on the pond, nice overhanging ledges that the turtles can swim through and/or hide underneath, and a bunch of fish too. VERY peaceful and relaxing to watch, and apparently it does the guests a world of good to enjoy the view.

Before anyone asks I was a visitor, but I was there every day for about 3 weeks visiting someone, spent a lot of time watching the turtles.

Great to see Brett is back. You could now remake an old Lassie movie with Brett in the starring role, "Brett come home" :D .
I expect the household is a lot more relaxed now he is safe and sound.

cheers

You should bring him to Snake Valley with you Leon, theres a good size pond there to keep him happy with, and he can make a few more friends for you to take home when its all over:whistle:

12 years, thats cool.

Maybe he needs a bit of female company you know. I dont want to lower he tone of the forum by suggesting turtle prostitution but maybe you could rent one for the weekend from the pet shop? to see how he reacts? give him a bit of stimulation? in a social sense.:eyepop:
