Hi guys,
I would like to start and take a few shots through my telescope. I have a celestron starshoot usb camera but I am severely lost when it comes to what settings to use, frame rates etc and how long to gather shots. Then I'm totally stumped when it comes to stacking the images so I have kind of given up. I was looking at taking a few pictures afocally and I have two options. I have a older cannon dslr or a simple point and shoot Olympus camera. What would be the better to use. Obviously the point and shoot is a lot lighter but will the slr do anything for me afocally that is worth noting?

I forgot to add I only have a alt/az goto mount so I'm guessing I will only be able to use short exposure times.

Hey Ben, Have you looked through the 'Beginners Imaging' section, there is quite a lot of action going on there, Image specs , exposures times , they are using different telescopes and cameras.
Over-all, a real good place to get some basic input, look at their results with the gear they use,
