Astro and related books and charts.

I will be putting over 60 astro and other science related books inc 1995 Hartungs, Burnhams, Sky Atlas 2000, Norton's 18th Ed. up for sale, and as I don't want to spend hours and hours wrapping and posting them individually or in small lots, I was wondering whether any interested members think it would be a good idea to sell the whole lot as a package, or whether I should bite the bullet and list them individually.

Sixty books would make a large heavy package to parcel up. You may find most people have some of the books already and only want 1 or 2 of what you have.

The ones that sell for over $20 each would surely be worth the time and effort to send individually. The ones that are left over could be donated to your local astro club or secondhand bookshop.

Yes, shortly, Lup. I've decided to sell the higher priced ones individually,
and the cheaper ones in small lots.

I need some better books/charts so I'd most likely grab something but I appreciate that postage is a pain and often a deal breaker financially. But if you have time on your hands posting individually will probably yield best return. If you sell the whole collection, it just means that the guy who buys it will probably do it. Another thing to consider is to donate the lot to a local council or school library. Maybe a school where you have friends/family's kids enrolled... (?)

pension, so I need all that I can get to fund my new hobby. Any that don't sell

Going to be a bit tough to sell 2nd hand books and/or magazines...

Had a bunch of back issues and some books in the shop that I simply could not get rid off. Discounted to below cost, no one buys. Put a box of them labelled 'FREE', still couldn't get rid of them (but someone wanted the plastic bin that it came in). Finally managed to find someone who would take them for free (after a lot of begging, and they wanted the plastic bin so I had actually pay them with a $2 bin to make them take them.) I've given them to clubs but they've given them back (minus one or two items). I did finally get rid of them when a customer who possibly has a hoarding issue took the whole box.

Then a few weeks later someone had dumped a new box of old magazines and books in front of the shop just as I managed to get rid of the last box, and I was like... NOOOOOOOooooooooo! .:sad: what a cruel joke...

Astro books and mags are not something we as nerds like to let go; you always feel like you should find good 'homes' for them... but sometimes you just have to...

List them on the classifieds, hold a garage sale or book exchange and hope for the best, but I thought I'd share my experience with getting rid of old blocks of paper not being that easy, even if they were free... and definitely don't dump them at your local astro shop' doors during closing hours! :rofl:

I've sold three singles and a set of three so far. It remains to be seen how
many more will go.
