Jupiter, Ganymede, Spot and shadow

Great viewing of Jupiter on 20th May - Ganymede and shadow, Io disappearing, and I'm reasonably convinced that the bright spot on Ganymede's lower right is a perfect location match for the bright rayed crater Osiris. About as much detail as I've caught on the Red Spot too.

Each image is a stack of 2300 frames, 200mm f/5 Newtonian at f/30, ASI185MC camera, stacked and processed in Firecapture, PIPP, Registax and Photoshop. R,G and B channels stacked separately and recombined (doesn't always produce good results, but this time it really helped). Seeing was excellent for the first frame.

thanks for sharing those impressive captures. the shadow is huge, i particularly enjoy the wider field pics with moons, 'cos that is what i see, tho not as much detail as you have!

Last night 27th i enjoyed watching almost the same events, including GRS, only slightly varied positions 7 days later.

Thats really decent detail, Andy, how do you find FireCapture for stacking, do or have you used AuttoStakkert, seems to be the go recently ? Just wondering mate :question: :thanx:

Bob, I use Firecapture for collecting the videos as *.ser files - I think it's a brilliant package. For my 600x600 pixel Mars frames, it'll do 100fps, and you can pick elongated crops like this one for Jupiter (~60fps). I put the .ser file through PIPP to select the best frames and centre them (with an offset of 250 pixels here to keep Ganymede). Then it's Registax 6 for me. I've tried Autostakkert a few times, and never quite got the results I wanted - not as sharp as I've done with Registax. Which is surely down to something I'm not quite doing right, and I've not spent the time to learn where I went wrong! Maybe one day I'll learn, but not yet :lol:

It's much the same here to a degree !
Although, I kinda find (quite easily) and learn what doesN't work ;) play with what works and find more that doesn't work :thumbsup :D
Eventually gather a system and practice !
Its remembering the system after a period of time, like months, where have forgotten half of it :rolleyes:
Good for me to keep Tutes close by !
Interesting some progs work for some planets and/or peeps better than others, but then not so good at other times ?
I just keep at it here & there - something will eventually click & drop into place...
