When you see all the details on the Firecapture preview...

It was a lovely evening, I got to show some friends some details on Mars through the 16" Dob, and one of those nights where everything was so sharp that even those who'd never looked through a scope could see surface features on Mars and Jupiter and go 'wow!' at Saturn. Though they probably think it's always like that, with planets everywhere and full of detail :)

Thanks John and Dunk for the brilliant views at the same time, here's my humble contribution (http://www.pbase.com/andycasely/image/163287029)

Best 2,700 of 13,00 frames, 200mm Newtonain at f/30, ASI185MC camera, stacked and processed with Firecapture, PIPP, Registax and Photoshop.

Great stuff Andy

How much are you having to push the gain on the 185?

Very good. I wasn't able to observe at the weekend so I missed the good seeing!

Thanks everyone :)

Hi Dunk, for this one my gain setting was at 325, shutter at 5.2ms to give a histogram value of close to 40%. I try not to ever go much higher than that on the gain, but this seems to do OK. What are your settings for the 224?

I usually aim for around 300 with the 224, 400 seems to have a fair bit more colour noise, or maybe that's just the way it looks
