Faint southern spiral galaxy IC5332

I did this one a while ago and was never quite happy with the processing.

I have reprocessed the image from the ground up and there is still a bit of noise that only mega hours would fix.

Perhaps a project next time it is up with more aperture and I can add that to it.

But as it stands by itself now I am much happier with this result.

Keeping it in perspective this is a really faint galaxy.

Its one of the last from the SX694 series as I have changed direction but still have several to process and publish. I've enjoyed the 694 camera but always wanted to optimise the CCD to the Honders. Your spreadsheet also brought home the importance of that.

Thanks Rick. Oh yes, 7424. I tried that one once and it was quote a weak image for me. Probably a dark site large aperture target.

cartes Du Ciel states the surface brightness as 14.5

I think this looks better Greg. The previous one was a bit black point clipped. I think doing this image with the CDK17 and the larger sensor would work well.

At the risk of getting shot, I suspect I'd most like to see a version about half-way between the new and the old: setting the zero point where there's no important clipping of the blacks, but still very contrasty.

Yes it would be better with the CDK Perhaps another go at it later on when its up again.



Background is a tad bright still. I did already pull it back a tad. Perhaps not enough.

I like it... I like it a lot.
Nice little seashell type galaxy in there as well,
I wish more people would go after obscure stuff like this.

fwiw) The catalogue number threw me for a second.
My brain registered NGC 1232, which has an almost identical morphology.

Incidentally, the first link has the camera down as the proline, the crop as the trius... not sure whether that is a typo or not?
