Hi all

Instead of producing an IceInspace Astronomy calendar this year, Astrovisuals are teaming up with the CWAS Astrofest to produce an Astronomy calendar of winning or shortlisted images from the CWAS Astrofest David Malin Awards.

This will be in place of the normal IceInSpace / Astrovisuals competition where winning images were placed in the Astronomy calendar. The overlap of competitions made it difficult on entrants and organisers, so we're giving this different concept a try this year.

The new Astronomy calendar will still have the full support of IceInSpace and will be sold through the IceInSpace Shop as usual.

So those that normally would enter their images in the IceInSpace Astronomy Calendar competition, we encourage you to enter your images into the CWAS Astrofest David Malin Awards competition. Images for the calendar will be picked from the shortlisted and winning entrants. Winners will receive cash prizes as normal, if your images are picked for the calendar.

The CWAS Astrofest David Malin Awards competition entries are open until the 31st May, for Australian residents only. Image submission is $15.
For full rules about entering the David Malin Awards, please read the conditions and follow the links here: http://www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/news_events/astrofest/DMA/

My understanding is that to date the $15 entry fee per image received from all non winning or Honorable Mention worthy CWAS DM entries has contributed to producing the annual exhibition of winning images and this has been organised by a not for profit astronomical society..so, perhaps this is fair enough to many.

So in light of this and unless I am overlooking some details, one issue I see with this new collaborative venture is that now it costs $15 to have an image of yours considered for publication by a commercial operation that stands to make profit from your image and this will only occur if one person (DM) likes your image...is this equitable?

I tend to agree with Mike. A bit of a crossed vested interest there even if it is convenient.
