Ic 2118 Ngc 1788

Had a small window between the Moon setting and the start of twilight so took four twenty minute exposures of IC 2118 and NGC 1788. The former is a very dim reflection nebula about one thousand light years away and is illuminated by Rigel the bright star bottom right. Its common name is the Witches Head and it seems to face Rigel.

Canon 5DH. Canon 300mm F2.8L at F2.8, Hutech LPR filter, 4x20min at ISO 200, ICNR ON, Corrected for flats in IP, stacked with Registar, digitally developed in IP and levels and curves in PS.

Great detail, and very sharp!

However it's very blue/purple - was that due to the LPR filter?

It was a very quick process before going to bed. I am amazed it even showed up as well as it did. I have been up all night colour blindness could be a symptom of tiredness...
The mount and guiding system is now perfoming so well I can take fourty minute exposures with ease.

The one to the left appears to be extremely faint.

Wow, ive just had a good look at that image, a beautiful little nebula, great imaging there. Its a very deep exposure too, 20 minute subs, and at F2.8!
Without the UHCS filter I can go max 5 mins at ISO 200 otherwise its all fogged out at my location, still I will pencil that in to try here with your lens :)
