Pic taken by a friend (at an event on Mt Stromlo on the weekend) through my homemade scope....
Handheld iPhone to the Nagler31 T5 eyepiece on 18" F5.58 taken through thin cloud to knock the brightness back a bit (while balancing on a ladder)
My one and only contribution to imaging

That's pretty good, Matt. You're retiring from imaging on a high

There'll be no comebacks either !!!
You can see the darkening and change in tone caused by the haze/clouds.
The Nagler 31 also leaves a little lateral colour on the limb.
This Friday on Mt Stromlo were will have several hundred members of the public for ANU Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics - Canberra Astronomy Society Open Night event,
I think the Nagler will stay home and a ProStar 32 will take its place in the focuser ;)

All it needs now is a minute of post processing ;)
I have found the easiest way to do that on an iPhone is via Instagram

After owning Smart Phones for several years, I only just found out you can access the internet on it and it has a camera, so don't give me any trouble young man !!!! :mad2:
I was discussing telescope design and construction with Ms Celine d'Orgeville on the weekend, I talked about my 18"F5.58 while she told me about her current project, the Giant Magellan Telescope.
Sounded like like a nice scope but nowhere to put an eyepiece in, so pretty much useless to me.... It would be nice to try the Nagler 31 on a 23metre aperture though ;)

What about that new ES eye piece with the 3' barrel :P
Also, no excuses for not keeping up with the times! Met an 89 year old a few weeks ago that was using his iPad as good as us young (by that I mean me, not yourself ) fellas :P
