198496I took this set a while ago. I have a backlog of images to process.
This one is 15 hours and 40 minutes.

You've managed to resolve the galaxy core quite nicely Greg :)

There were a few nights of data where the seeing was awesome and the AP really shows its fine optics. The core area seems to be 5 bright objects right near the core.
Its amazing how much good seeing improves the image and conversely how average to poor seeing holds it back.

Nice colour and detail, Greg. I just wonder if you can stretch it a bit more and show the jets? That combination should be about twice as fast as my C300 at f/9 with the U16M.
Cheers,
Rick.

core is looking good Greg,
I agree back ground is pretty black.

That's a pretty result, and great detail.

Wonderful, Greg. The jets are there even in your JPEG. I love the way you've shown the colour in those innermost dust lanes.
Best,
Mike

I did a slight repro and added some DBE cleaned up luminance and brightened it up a bit. 2 of the jets are just showing. I have some CDK17 data I can add later to boost it even further. Background is not so black now.
Thanks Russell. I added more brightness and luminance and it brought up the background a bit.
Thanks Trev. Its one of the nicer Southern galaxies.
You can see one of them even in a 10 minute sub. At my dark site they would have contrasted better but I am happy with the result from my rural home skies.

A tidy result
....but with most galaxies, I'm discovering there is no substitute for focal length...begging the question: would the result not have been better with your CDK17 ?

Thanks.
The CDK under ideal conditions with the 16803 sensor is hard to beat I agree.
I have recently revised these scopes roles. The Honders can do galaxy but mostly nebulas and wider fields especially narrowband. The CDK probably more galaxy work and the odd closer up of a neb or small planetary etc.

It's a favourite out of the many great galaxies in our southern skies and for good reason!...you've done a good job here Greg, perhaps a little thin :confuse3: considering the exposure time but I am sure the less than dark skies wouldn't have helped here either.
Good to see some images from you again and sounds like there are a few to come yet, looking forward to'em

Thanks Mike. Yes there's no substitute for the dark site. Everything is easier and quicker.

Hi Greg,
great! I really love this galaxy with its confused shaped southern part.

Thanks Markus. Its an interesting galaxy and I believe a rather violent one.

Hi Greg,
Very lovely image and I like the colours and detail. I hesitate to mention but the stars don't look as round as I'm used to seeing from you. Perhaps it's my Ipad screen doing something strange. Momentarily I'm not able to view otherwise.

Good thanks Greg. We have had a chronic cloudy wet season since October this time around and it is only just starting to clear up now. I have been frantic work -wise, so haven't looked at the TB of data collected during the last year or so. I hope to get a chance soon.
Gear-wise, I have been setting up a completely new system on the 20inch 4.7M scope, going back to AO guiding with the AO-X STX16803 combination and I have had some terrible mount hysteresis to sort out first, but it seems OK now that I have adjusted the worm gear /spring plunger tension and so on, on the Dec axis of the mount. I hope to start getting some data after more tweaking over the next few weeks.
Cheers,
Tim

Good to hear you got on top of your gear troubles. It can be hard sometimes.

Thanks Luis.
On some of the nights the seeing was really very good and the data was impressively sharp. Not all of that sharpness seems to end up at the final image with colour added etc and other subs from nights where the seeing was not quite as good but that's the vagaries of imaging.
Greg.
