Just a bit of a rant to get it off my chest. Long story short purchased my first ep and low and behold aus post dropped it at the wrong adress and some dishonest person decided they were me and signed for it and took it. Whats happened to this world dont they usually check id anymore? Again sorry for the rant. Has anyone else had any similar experience and have a positive outcome in the end?

lots and lots and lots, ask for a copy of the signature, last time I did that they couldn't as it would have been a breach of privacy, I was asking for what they said was MY signature mind you MINE!!!! bunch of idiots.........

They don't check for ID if there's someone home to sign for the parcel. (And if it's regular unregistered parcel post they don't need a signature even.) I must say I'd be pretty peeved if I had to show ID in my own home to be able to receive my own mail.

How did you figure that what you reckon happened in fact happened?

I had something somewhat similar happen with a ~$150 Vistaprint order: AustPost left the parcel on the front porch in plain view of busy street and it got nicked (even though it would have been worthless to any thief). AustPost denied all responsibility but Vistaprint got a local printing business to redo the order urgently and had it delivered by express courier for no charge. Received it within a couple of days (a job that normally takes 7-10 days). I was very impressed with Vistaprint; not so much with AustPost and it was basically their fault.

I can sympathise totally. The last 4 parcels I have had sent to me, have all gone missing, one of which was express post that turned up after 7 days. All the others I had to put in a complaint to chase up where they were. All were registered, one of which had no tracking associated with it after a week. Seriously the clown in charge needs to earn some of his millions and get the shop in order, it is a joke.:mad2:
Oh yeah one of the items came from NZ, ended up in Tasmania, go figure. :screwy: Had the correct address when it eventually arrived a fortnight after it was sent.

I've repeatedly had courier drivers just stop near the letterbox, drop the card that says 'no-one home, collect package at local post office' then drive off.

Absolutely no attempt to deliver. I can regularly see them doing this - but they escape before I can get to them!

I understand that as contractors their time/mileage/pay isn't great, but if you just pss off your clients, your business will fade.

Which is exactly what is happening with Oz Post, who think it's fine to charge ever-increasing prices for ever-diminishing service.....

I have stopped getting anything delivered to my home address; instead, I have a free Australia Post "24/7 Parcel Locker" account.
http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/parcel-lockers.html

The Post Office nearest my work has a bank of these Parcel Lockers, so it is very convenient for me. They are accessible 24-hours, so I can stop by on my way home from work. (Ever noticed how often you find the "We could not deliver" card in your mail box when you get home on a Friday evening, so you can't get your hands on your new toy until Monday?!)

You get a text message as soon as it arrives, and there is (almost) no risk of it being delivered to the wrong address, or the inevitable "No-one was home when we called" card when you stayed home all day just to collect it.

I've got my parcel locker stored as my default eBay / PayPal delivery address. The same Parcel Locker address even works for packages that have to be signed for, but you have to go into the Post Office to sign for it and collect - but since you get a text message as soon as it arrives at the Post Office, you've got a chance of collecting it that day. I've only encountered a very small number of e-retailers who won't ship to a Parcel Locker address.

Of course, it still takes Australia Post an age to deliver your parcel from the minute it's in their hands to the locker, but then it's in my hands the same day.

It was registerd and when i checked the tracking number it said delivered, i was eagerly awaiting it as when i checked tuesday morning it was on its way to be delivered i searched high and low around the street and house in case he left a card and the wind caught it but when i rung them i was informed it was signed for but couldn't tell me who by or where. His usually really good and have never had a problem as the wife has an ebay fettish. The most dissapointing part is its the first astro thing the wife willingly let me get

AustPost are obligated to chase it up, especially if it was registered. Ask at your local post office, but you'll probably need to ring up a specific department and get them to launch an investigation. (I had to do this once, but I forget the details.) If the staff at your post office are half competent they will be able to tell you what you need to do. If they're not, go and ask at the next nearest post office, look online, ring up. Good luck! and don't give up!

I had an issue where a parcel said it was delivered and it was!! Same house number, same street name, wrong suburb!!
Someone royally screwed up with that one and it took an internal investigation to retrieve it. (camera lenses are not that cheap). Thankfully the recipient who wrongfully took it returned it as it would then have become a police matter.

I would prefer if Aus Post did just leave a card in the letter box for ALL parcel deliveries. Safer than current adhoc delivery.

I also have a PO box for mail security. I hate having my mail poking out of my letterbox, so unsecure. A card is left in my PO box for parcels. The boxes are cheap too - $120 this year.

I actually came home from the shops this morning to find the ep sitting next to the front door...lucky turn of events but will definitely be investing in a post box after this experience

There are some advantages to living in the bush - we know the mail contractor and the PO staff (50kms away) and they know us. never had a problem with Aus Post parcels. Couriers are another matter. Some suppliers e.g. Bintel use the right ones and delivery to the door no problem. others insist on using the majors who are a disaster - some won't deliver except to their nearest depot (150 kms)!

It seems to be more of an occurrence than you originally think, i must say i didn't expect to hear so many others having similar or worse issues with these guys, would think considering how long they have been around they would have it right by now.

Easy, come live near my place. I am all of 45 minutes (On a good day) out of the Melbourne CBD and 5 minutes out of a "Regional" town. Anything much bigger than a letter gets carded.

It was mentioned above seeing couriers stop at the letterbox, dump a "no one home" card and drive off. We don't even get that, they just dump at the local PO and run. They do however deliver to the estate on the far side of town which with only one way in and out will take longer to deliver to than my place does!

My most recent parcel debacle was some car suspension stuff out of Taiwan. First the international courier lost it for three weeks in Hong Kong, then when they found it Aus Post took a week to deliver it the last 50km from Tullamarine.

I think this happens all the time. We try using other delivery services but sometimes for deliveries to certain areas (especially remote areas) it calls for an Express Post satchel.

Once I went to pick up a parcel that I got a card for but forgot that I already did. They showed me a signature and asked if it was mine, and yes it was. So I don't know why they won't show you signatures if you ask for it.

What's been working out for me when it comes to receiving personal parcels is to have it delivered to a Parcel Locker. It's a free service but you do have to pick up within 48h (it used to be 5 days) though it's open 24h a day. For other mail we use the shop's PO box.

I guess it's the reality where people are moving to online shopping and existing mail/parcel delivery services aren't able to keep up.

Here's one of the alternatives we use when sending items larger than 3kg but I can't remember if you have to register with a business first cos I just book everything through the business account. It basically finds the cheapest amongst the private courier services and you can choose which one is best http://www.baggagefreight.com.au/

Also check out Mailman by Officeworks for smaller parcels. Cheaper than AusPost sometimes. http://www.officeworks.com.au/mailman

Of course, not all of the courier services are created equal; remember some of them work on pretty slim margins and there will be lapses in service.

I have to admit i have never had an issue with Aust Post.
Even as recent as yesterday my daughter sent an express article on Wednesday at 10am and i opened it at about 10am this morning.
It was sent from Ballarat to Mortlake a small country town in South West Victoria, now that is prety good i reckon

I had a parcel delivered yesterday it was in an express post bag and it took 10 days. Hate to think how long it would have taken via normal parcel post, un bloody believable....

It's individuals who work for AusPost, so it won't be the same experience for everyone. I had a wonderful postie, then when the CEO cut jobs he disappeared and now there is a bad one.

To the OP: If AusPost doesn't help go to the ombudsman... If they make a mistake they have to pay.
