My learning curve continues with the ZWO ASI 174MM Cool camera. Finally completed my first RGB image! I have been mainly experimenting with Ha.

Red 9 x 5 min subs
Green 10 x 5 min subs
Blue 10 x 5 min subs

Darks, Flats and Bias applied processed in PixInsight (Novice)

More data will help this image, I plan to obtain more during the next new moon if the clouds leave me alone!

Any feedback appreciated, I am still trying to get my head around PixInsight.

Thanks for looking!

PixInsight will take a lot of getting your head around :P

It is a nice beginning, what will help a lot will be getting some good quality Luminance, that alone will make it a lot easier to process.

Thanks Colin. I am enjoying the challenge of mono imaging vs dslr.

Is it better to collect Luminance data or extract from my RGB data in PixInsight?

It is a LOT better to actually collect luminance data. When you blend RGB data together to create a synthetic luminance what it mostly lacks is the signal of having pure luminance.

Thanks Colin.

I thought actual Luminance data would be better, however, I had read about synthetic luminance.

Is there a general rule for the ratio of Luminance vs RGB data.

Enough RGB data to give good noiseless colour rendition and then pump everything else into Luminance :)

go for as much L as possible, you can getaway with binning RGB data and using heavy noise reduction on the RGB. some people actually actively blur the RGB data.
