Toying with recent some data...as you do when the clouds roll in...and made some heavy local contrast adjustments to this well known subject posted by yours truly recently.

Doing so drove the noise through the roof, but I was surprised to see much more fragmented dust was revealed in the central bulge, plus the hints of the shell structure in the outer halo...so brilliantly revealed by Rolf Olsen ....yet also hinted here in a relatively short exposure.

Anyway..enough waffle from me

It looks a tad different to my 50s subs in 35 km/h winds last night :P

Very nice btw!

Well, that little experiment went well. A really interesting, and enjoyable result Peter.

Thank you gentlemen....your feedback has made me think this process is worth sticking with....and work out how to retain the microcontrast detail without the noise.

Careful Peter, you're on the edge here mate. Starting to look like a HDR transformation overdo from PixInsight!

You did bring out some of the shell structure in Cent A though. Perhaps using it in a blend with more usual processing and bring out the best bits with a mask may be the go.

Greg.

Marvelous shot
What exactly do you mean by "contrast-enhanced"

Ta. I've exaggerated the range in brightness of the image. Totally "disrespected the light" so to speak. A natural view of the object has a much more subtle difference in intensity from dark to light areas....hope that makes sense

Very nice Peter i like how you have manged to keep the central bright parts undercooked and still show off those dark cloudy clouds and speckles.

Given the right seeing I suspect I can do much better. Wonder if I can get a plot in Chile

Ah, I also see from your tag line you are a Douglas Adams fan!

That was the plan...but I still haven't figured out how to tame the noise by doing so.
