This is a rather ' subjective ' question....

Current events have me considering just having 1 Scope.

Refractors ...
TV 4" Genesis SDF f/5.4 Fluorite ( Petzval )
SharpStar 107PH Triplet APO f/6.5
FS78 Takahashi Fluorite Doublet

I'm interested to know which Scope would you keep.
They are all very nice Scopes and it's going to be difficult for me to decide.

In the long run, I guess it's my pick.

What would you keep ..... it's a hard one.

None of them is particularly heavy, so I would keep whichever of the two
larger ones is the better in your estimation. IMHO the 78 is a bit aperture
challenged for an only scope.

That's true .... but a very ' sharp ' view with this one.

I'm leaning towards keeping the SharpStar at the moment... maybe..!!

Tough choice .

 If it was me old mate , it would be the TV 4 inch Genesis , best of both worlds , awsome low power wide field views and able to grab enough light for those high power views when needed .

And there is definetly something about these classic's .

Yeah, they are ....maybe I should just forget about it .... but am prepared to let the FS78 go....if someone was keen for it.
At least that would be a start.

Hey Col,

As nice as the SharpStar is, there doesn't seem to be anything 'special' about it. The other two are 'classics 'as Brian said, and they are classics for a reason.

Considering all the high-end gear that's passed through your hands over the years it's hard to imagine seeing your signature without something 'cool' like a Tak or Tele Vue in it!

Morton ....Thanks for the input.... your words do hold a lot of weight regarding the ' classic's '

That's what makes this whole exercise so hard....

Nah .... I'll think I'll put this whole idea to bed for the moment.

Keep the Genesis Flash !!!
(it hails from a much earlier time, an oldie like you and me)

It is certainly a difficult decision but I would lean towards the Gensis as well. It is one of those classics that I have read about here and there, is not as aperture challenged as the FS78, may produce better wide fields being a Petzval design but with a small EP can give great high powers.

I'd keep the one that gives the best views with the existing eyepieces.
If they are too close to call (unlikely given the aperture gap though not impossible), I'd keep the one that is lightest.
If there is still no clear winner, I'd keep the one that cools fastest (maybe less of an issue where you are).

Everyone is different. I like solar, so regardless of the above I'd lean towards one that will work with a Herschel wedge. Which I think rules out the Petzval (or at least it's not recommended).

Mirko,
Being a active solar observer with a Genesis I asked the question of Al Nagler re. possible energy damage to the rear lens group.
His answer (which later appeared in S&T) was that the Genesis was 100% safe to use for solar observing (obviously with a suitable Herschel wedge!)

I've already measured up my "box" - when I go, the Genesis goes with me!
It's definitely NOT the one to sell.
