Intervalometer to activate record?

Hi all.

I'm currently looking into a new intervalometer for my 70d. Have seen some decent looking ones on eBay for around $18-20 that would be satisfactory but I'm prepared to spend a few extra dollars on a intervalometer that will activate my cameras recording mode. Anyone know of any available? Would certainly be nice to keep all my frames rather than deleting the first few seconds due to a shaking camera after pressing the button on my camera.

I have one of the cheap ebay intervalometers, but I've never tried to use
the video mode with it. I don't see why it shouldn't work. If you don't get
any definitive answers soon, I'll try mine and see if it works.

I did have a wireless remote I bought from teds a few yrs back. Didn't activate record but was ok. It sometimes stopped working and the programming wasn't user friendly at all. Not to mention the battery life wasn't great.

No problem Raymo. Just when you have time mate. I sent the seller a question asking if it would. But if you could check when you have time that would be great. 😀
I'll be surprised if it does actually but I still might consider buying even if it doesn't. But as I mentioned id be willing to spend a bit more on one that did. Nothing over $100 bucks. Limited info on the net regarding Intervalometer's that carry out this function but maybe I'm not looking in the right areas

No, it doesn't operate in video mode Ben.

I'm fairly sure there is an app that can trigger it from a phone or tablet. Or Canon's own EOS Utility can do it from a laptop. Not quite as portable I know but a phone isn't too cumbersome.

Thanks for trying Raymo. I might make a purchase anyways. And thank you Chris. I'll certainly look into that as a option. Fully aware of my canons software being able to do so but if I can avoid taking my laptop with me I will.

Well after my own reaserch and being told off multiple camera retailers it can't be done. Canons RC6 remote shutter does the job apparently. http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8201844000.html
Just ordered one off eBay for 5 bucks (prob a Chinese generic mock up) and will see if does the job. If not teds sell for around $40.

Maybe you need to dumb it down.

A third party Pixel TC-252 intervalometer, simply closes the contact to release the shutter. No smarts, no control of other parameters. The intervalometer will work, however you still need to determine if the camera is able to trigger video from the cable switch signal If you can release the video with a cable switch, you should be able to do it with the TC-252.

You haven't explained why it needs to be an intervalometer? If you only want to remove vibration, why can' you use a cable switch?

The camera's video function cannot be operated by a shutter release
cable, or a generic intervalometer. I imagine that Canon produces a
remote such as the aforementioned RC6 that will operate the video function.

Basically I wanted to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
I have needed a new Intervalometer for a while now as my wireless isn't very good. Rather go put a spend money on a Intervalometer and later learning that there were Intervalometers available that could funtion video mode. I never had intention nor was interested in a Intervalometer that could program recording times etc (although would be a nice feature). Just something that could activate and stop recording without touching my camera.
Most of my lunar photography is done in video mode (which I'm yet to try via my 70d but had decent results via my old T3/1100D).
Vibrations activating/deactivating my camera are a pain. Easily resolved through PIPP or editing the vibrating frames out seperately but I guess it would be a nice feature not to do so hence keeping a larger portion of frames.
Now knowing they don't exist buying a cheap Intervalometer along with a RC6 will have me covered.
