I hope some one is solar imaging at the moment!

For a couple of reasons my solar imaging kit is non operational at the moment, but when observing the sun just now there is a stunning large prominence detached that would look awesome in an image. looks like twisted rope swirling around.

Thanks - I took a quick look through the SolarMax, looked very impressive.

Just had another peek through the Lunt and some more big proms now visible on the opposite side.

Thanks for the heads up today, Malcolm. I pulled out my Quark moments after you made your first post. By then the arch prom had developed into a massive detached structure, interacting with a smaller arch prom.

I also noticed the gorgeous collection of proms on the other side that you mentioned. I couldn't help myself and also sketched these.

I decided to pull out the SolarMax I have too, and the chromosphere it revealed was amazing. Where the SolarMax isn't too good with high magnification for the proms, the Quark is just brilliant. Where the Quark is soft with the chromsphere, the SolarMax takes over. The best of both worlds, :)

I take it you have a QUARK Prominence model? (My QUARK Chromosphere model arrived yesterday - hopefully it'll have first light tomorrow - so I'm obviously looking for it not to be "soft" on the Chromosphere!)

A couple of good prominence on the Sun this morning (about 2-3 hrs ago). Got to process the images yet, but they both looked impressive.

Thanks guys for the kind words on my sketches. It's always nice to hear/read nice things about one's efforts.

Mal, 'inactive at the moment'! Really? Mate, if this is inactivity, I'm in for a real treat then! Filaments everywhere, one mad crazy sunspot region with extraordinary structures around it, intriguing proms many of which are interacting/connected. And this is inactivity... Man, I am green in this solar caper! :)

Alex, sorry I simply meant that we are past solar maximum (which was a pretty quiet maximum anyways) and the last few times I have had the solar scope out there has been only one or two spots and the proms have been quite small.
