Folks,

While out in the wee hours of Saturday morning running tests with the 224, I took a few sequences of Mars. Fortunately, the seeing didn't look too bad. Visually, the surface was nicely detailed with the polar ice/cloud being and other high contrast features readily visible.

This test was running the 224 at almost 250fps, my little netbook couldn't quite make the magic number! I also captured a few sequences at slower frame rates which I may post later, but the seeing was dancing well even at high speed.

With the frame rate from th 224, this is a stack of 750 frames or ~3 seconds of data.

Looking forward to seeing how it looks a little closer up as we approach opposition...

The 224 looks like it is super sensitive picking up detail nicely. 250fps seems frighteningly fast for a planetary ccd. Seeing was good for me but cloud stopped my Mars efforts.

John.

Yeah I'm pretty pleased with it so far, certain packs in the bang for buck.

It has an usually high analogue gain range.

Damn good for 3s of time spent on it! When Mars gets a little bit closer it'll certainly help bring out some more detail.

Nice capture, Dunk.

I was observing Mars with the Tak at the same time. Nice to see the same view with more detail.
