Moonlite focuser, adding hi-res stepper?

Hello all,

Has anyone added a Hi-res stepper to their existing Moonlite focuser before? I have a CR2 Type Moonlite with Tri-knob (I think), it has the single knob on one side and dual knob with reduction on the other, and wondered how easy it would be to attach the Moonlite Hi-res stepper to it if purchased.

Hi Andrew,

It would not hurt directly asking the guys at Moonlite. I have not done it myself but have a Moonlite with a motor and a rotator, and I think in your case the dual knob would have to come off to make room for the motor, while the single knob could stay attached. There are predrilled holes in your Moonlite for attaching a motor.

I have my DC servo Moonlite converted to a stepper. Wasn't game to do myself, but spoke to Ron at Moonlite, confirmed it could be done, mailed it to him, and he sent it back all done. He's very responsive and helpful.

Thanks for your responses Suavi and Troy. I don't have any problem doing the change over myself, but was wondering how easy it was. I don't have any issue sending it to Moonlite either for the change over, probably a better option in the long run. I may send them an email and see what would be involved. I sent them one a while back but cannot find it in my email box... Thanks again for your replies.

Well after a quick email to Ron, it has all been sorted now, I cannot believe how easy it was. I was a little concerned over holes for the mounting brackets etc..., but have come to realise that the mounting bracket actually attaches via the mounting bolts, so that's pretty easy... Just the single knob comes off and the slip clutch system goes on....The dual knob assembly stays on. I think I was just getting myself worried over nothing...
