Lens for 1100D

Hi Everyone,

So I've been playing around with my point and shoot camera piggybacked onto my DOB and now I'm hooked :) (my first results of M42 are attached) So now I want to get an 1100D and continue doing wide angle stuff but with a DSLR. I'm just not sure whether to go for one with the standard lens of if I should get a body only and get a lens seperately. Budget for the lens would be $100-200. OR while looking for an 1100D I have noticed that they aren't really available new anymore but there is the 1200D, same question would apply though.... stock lens kit or body only and lens separately.

I personally would get body only, as the kit 18-55mm is very mediocre,
and get a new or used lens of your choice from the classifieds on this forum, or perhaps ebay.

Yeah, the kit lens is so-so.

Depends on what focal length you're interested in...makes a big difference to the FOV.

The Canon 50mm f/1.8 and 40mm f/2.8 are hard to beat for the price, although as with most lenses (even expensive ones), you may need to stop it down a bit to get crisper corners.

Just lined up a 550D, 18-55mm & 50mm f1.8 for $400 all up. Stoked

Is this what I would need to stick the 550d directly onto the 1.25" adapter? (I have a skywatcher dob)

got the 550D last night and it was kinda clear when I got home so I busted it out. Was literally learning to use it in the dark, so I'm pretty happy considering. It would seem as if it was out of focus.

I don't think it would give you all those stars out of focus.
I'd say it is either atmospheric or shutter slap.

yeh... I honestly have no idea being that this is my second attempt ever at astrophotography and first with a DSLR. The mirror was flapping up and down for every shot but from what I've read there's nothing i can do about it unless I'm willing to go at the mirror with a red hot screwdriver...

I think I figured out the problem. I need to stop down the lense to f4.0 to reduce coma
