I have an older Atik with unregulated cooling. In summer it seems to stay around 0° to -4°, which is not overly cold, but seeing it is a Sony chip, is almost OK.
Are there any commercially made small cooler boxes available that would suit? I'd like to get this one at a cold ambient to start with so the onboard cooling can go lower still.
I could make one, but...

Lewis, I've got one I made for a 350D using an air-to-air peltier cooler. It uses a digital temp controller. It is able to bring the temp inside the insulated box/case down by about 19 below ambient after about 10 minutes. PM me if you want more info.

Why not just stick it in a plastic bag with dessicant packs and put it in the freezer for an hour before you use it. The camera will start below zero and your unregulated cooling can handle it from there.
If you worried about internal fogging just dry gas it when you put it in the bag, Argon works well.

Thanks - will have a think Peter - I just want something relatively small as the camera itself is small.
Wonder would dry ice in a foam surrounding cool it enough, and being CO2, is dry anyway. Then again, I haven't seen dry ice for sale in ages.
Maybe I could fill up a dewar at the lab and put it in liquid nitrogen lol :)
