Lunt Pressure Tuner Issue

I unscrewed the pressure tuner (black cylinder) on my Lunt Solar scope to reset the pressure.

I am now unable to screw it back on to the brass barrel.
It appears that the thread on the pressure tuner is damaged.
As sooner as the thread engages, the tuner jams / locks.

Any suggestions on what to do?
Who does Lunt maintenance / support in Australia?

Hi Brendan,
take a close look at the unit. It is often difficult to engage if the cap has been removed. It should not be damaged. Have a look at the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx5abAO0ctc
Don;t know if it helps. but just removing the cap is a routine procedure.

Had already worked out how to remove and an disassemble the tuner.

Mine was very difficult to screw back on, too-I think it is because of the fine thread. It just took patience and several attempts. Just don't force the thread!

I had exactly the same experience as you. Eventually I used a hand lens and a very gentle application of a triangular file to knock the burrs of the end of the thread. 4 years later no problems since.

Yep.

The pressure tuner has been on and off a couple times without issue since astrofest. Just when i needed it for the World Science festival it refused to go on.

A friend looked at at the thread latest night and could see issues with the starting thread. Some ATM work is coming.

Yup can confirm ours is the same - mostly it's very simple, but sometimes you wonder how clumsy your fingers can be !

I can confirm that when I took mine off the first time that I thought it was stuffed! No matter what way I did it, the damned thing wouldn't go on!

But then it did! Lots of gentle efforts and lots of sweat. Now it goes back on no problems? What happened? Maybe the brass wore in a bit?

A friend was able to do some magic and fix the problem thread.

Glad it was back to a working state, while watching the proms on the weekend.
