New toy coming from Stellavue - the SVS80.

According to their literature "This 80 mm state-of-the-art, full frame astrograph will use a superb 3" focuser and operate at 336 mm, f/4.3 to provide the widest possible field. A 6-element APO, the SVS80 will use FPL-53, Ohara's lowest dispersion super ED glass."

Sounds pretty cool :)

Thank you for the heads up Andy, really tempting option as I have been looking around (very causally) for a quality wide field scope... :)

Similar optical tube is being sold by a number of places including TS.

Looks like it would have good performance to the edges of a small Sony sensor:

But isn't that report for a different model and done in OCt 2013?

Yes, this one is suited for full frame cameras, STL11000's etc.
Due out in April. Will probably cost a bit more than my recently aquired SV70T though!

How would such a scope compare to a 300 or 400mm prime or zoom lens?
I would have thought a 400mm L glass canon lens would be better or am I wrong?

Just had a look at the link to the TS80 f4.4 and used th translate plugin in FFox to translate the small list of specifications on the top right of the page.
The 4th one (to do with the tilting mechanism for getting the field parallel to the senser in photography) reads:
♦ Die Kamera wird komplett verschraubt.
And translated as:
♦ The camera is completely screwed.

So, be warned
