G'day all.

Just finished getting the 900nc moddified for long exposures. Heres a few test images. Collimation was out on the 5.5" schmidt newt at the time, & I'm still refining the settings on each object.

It seems to be a lot more sensitive than the 840K for some reason...I though they were the same chip?

Nice pics there. Was that a Celestron Comet Catcher scope?

Wow great work John, love the colours mate.
The 900 does seem more sensitive, can't remember the reason but I thought I had read something somewhere about it.

Keep up the great work mate.

Hi Al, home for lunch but when I get home this evening I'll give you a bit of a run down on some settings..I don't expect they'll help you much considering the differences between our 2 scopes & the difference between the 840K & the 900nc is like chalk & cheese.

Thanks barbecue-boy & Vingster :)

Thanks Asi. I realise there will be differences - especially in capture - but it's all food for thought!;)

Hi again Al.

With a 45 sec exposure time as an example using the 840K: Gain 20% Gamma 90% Brightness 60% If you dropped backed to 20 second exposures (for instance) I would then have to up the gain to roughly 50% dropping gamma to 60%

Totally different with the 900nc. The same exposure time (45 sec) would mean gain 70% gamma 80% brightness 75% contrast 90%.

The M42 pic I posted was 20 sec. exps. 10 stacked. With the 840K I can't get the detail seen even with 1 min.

I usually have to spend close to 1 hr on each target previewing different setting before I even consider capturing. What you see on the preview is what you get once capturing.

I use desire BTW I haven't tried K3 yet.

Make sure your running @ 5FPS & 1/25th.
