Next silly question for the day (or night)!

If i purchased a telescope OS (lets say in HK)and brought it back with me is duty "free" still limited to the magic $1000 limit? After that duty is due and taxes.

Maybe I can separate the scope into packaged boxes (one for tripod, one for OTA... you get the drift) so that other family members each possess a packaged item of less than $1000 AUD?

Anyone wise enough to set me straight on this? :poke:

Thanks in advance:D

You can buy stuff and take it back with you , however I would be more worried about the extra baggae charges that it will cost you. You may have to buy another suitcase and be chraged accordingly for this.

If you're already travelling OS you can definately pick up some bargains but it's not worth paying airfares to go and get the stuff - unless you have frequent flyer points going to waste. If you do figure out a way to make it worthwhile, I can see a plane-load of IIS'ers having a great time in Hong Kong :-)
