Finally something - after my painful initiation the other weekend, and with the help of an Astronomiks UV/IR block filter and a home-made Hartmann mask (Paul you're a gem!) I got a few results.
After focusing on Diphda I went DSO hunting, with the aim of putting something recognisable on paper (well on the hard drive anyway!). Aimed at 47-Tuc and boom, there she was - the Queen of the globulars..... 10x8sec, hardly much, but I'm happy with it, and it will go down as my first DSI image, unless you count the GREAT shot of a handful of dust I got last week.....
Too tired to process any more..... must sleep..... :zzz2:

Eric - your title as the DSI king is still intact..... :)

lol guys thanks. I can't hold the title forever :P that is a great 47 Tuc Lee and with just 10 x 8 sec . I never tried putting the DSI into the ED80. Might give that a go.

Apologies guys for not being active lately. I'm flat out!.

Hi Lee, thats a very nice image of 47 Tucanae for your first image with a DSI.
I think that Globulars have to be one of the trickiest DSO's to image and I have seen a lot worse, namely mine when I first started

cheers

 Good onya Lee. Fantastic start.

I know what you mean about focusing. The ol' hartmann is a great training tool. You'll be able to give it up after a while 'cos you will know what to look for by then.

Well done Lee,
it's one fine pic for a first image!
I framed my first one...(shameful)

looks good in terms of focus, and it's impressive that you got all these stars with a very brief exposure
well done mate!

Thanks for the nice words guys! :)

I was surprised to get so many faint stars also, believe me, I only set it to 8 sec as more of a scouting type exposure, and was happy with what appeared.... so kept it going - given how short they were, should have stacked heaps more though....
Will try a few different exposures next time and layer them in PS....

Amazing how much detail you have picked up for 8 second exposures.

Well done Lee.

Amagine what can be done when you add minutes to the exposures.
