IC2177 Seagull in Ha

Wow! A couple of clear nights here in Brisbane! Took the opportunity to shoot some Ha in near full moon conditions. Hoping to add some RGB and OIII next.

Nice resolution and detail, I do see a dragon more than a seagull though.

Very cool Troy. :thumbsup: I was thinking of doing this one in color while it's up next as it fills the FSQ fov nicely. Is it all Ha emission or is there any bit of blue/pinkish reflections in there as well.:question:

Cheers mate. I actually shot 4 hours' worth on Tuesday night, but mount wasn't tracking very well (too well balanced and rocking/backlash) giving eggy stars. In the bin with that. Last night I put it a little more off-balance against the gears and it tracked much better - rounder stars and sharper nebulosity.



There is a little blue reflection in the bright round head I think, and there appears to be a fair bit of OIII in the wings, so I'm going to get some of that too for a NB version.

Thanks, Marcus. Did get some RGB last night, but guiding was woeful and most of it trashed. Tonight the clouds have rolled in after just 4 subs. :(

Surprised how big it is, can't see all of the seagull in above 2 degree wide shot. The Ha spanning from left to right is the wing span I think.



Thanks mate. Since I couldn't get the whole nebula in, I was really focusing (pardon pun) on the composition on this one - wanted to get those 2 circular Ha patches top right, open cluster bottom left, and a crescent shaped nebulosity around star bottom just right of centre.

That is a beauty bit of structure, and what caught my eye straight up !
I guess it is a bow-shock-wave or similar ?
I'm wondering if it has its own catalog no, do you know, since you particularly wanted it in frame :question:
