View Full Version here: : Celestron 6x30 Finderscope, kinda crappy?

I find that the 6x30 finderscope that Celestron make is pretty flimsy and crap. I was trying to centre Sirius in the middle but all the screws were already tight. I un-tightened a few and started to turn them very slightly in a random order but it still wasn't that great. It feels pretty cheap. The red laser dot and GSO finderscopes I have used (or any with the proper dovetail bracket) seems much easier to use.

Would it best to stick using to this one (if someone can confirm it's a good finderscope) or look at getting a better one?

Does anyone have any issues with this particular finderscope or is it a classic case of user error?

I've never liked the Celestron 6x30 finders. Too small and cheaply made IMO.

I use a red dot finder on my C6.

I always find it difficult to centre an object on the crosshair. It's a hit n miss affair - turning screws back n forth, often running out of thread.

My Celestron finder has 2 plastic screws and a metal springed lug (instead of 3rd screw). Yours is the same?

I use a Telrad but the finder scope is still useful. I keep thinking to get different one or get a different holder.

 Right on there mate , I cant for the life of me understand why Celestron sell otherwise good scopes with these things , the one that came with my C9.25 now sits in my junk draw and was replaced with a nice 8x50 RA finder from Bintel and a WO red dot finder that does double duty on my LP 60mm triplet , pretty bad they are .

I must be profoundly lucky... On my older C8, I have it aligned quite well and can have a 9mm EP in place and have the target in the FoV. Probably not that great of an achievement but it is a god send for me. :-)

The only problem I have with it is the focus, it doesn't seem to have one. :( I have tried twisting things and only managed to take it apart and have to put it back together again. The only other annoyance is losing the cross hairs in the black of space ;) .

As long as I put the bracket back on the same way, screws in place and then push forward, I have found it is always aligned. Go figure!

The 6x30 finders on the old orange tube C8s from the 80s and early 90s
were fine.

I still got the red dot finder from my 130SLT which is way better!

I just need to try and locate a dovetail.
