looks fantastic Rick, probably one to avoid from urban areas! dark and dusty with some nice pastel colour coming through.

Thanks, Russell. It's a dim one for sure. Also hammered by satellites if you image it from 35 degrees north!

Lack of colour data or not Rick you have done a great job I think. It's a beautiful area of the sky.

Cheers

Thanks, Steve! Yes, it's a great object and a mosaic of the surrounding region would be a cool project.

So cool. I'm surprised it fills the FSQ fov. That thing is tiny no or am I thinking of another one? Did you have an extender or crop the field? Superb colors and details.

RickS
25-02-2016, 05:58 PM
Thanks, Marc. It's a crop of about 1/4 of the total field. Also drizzled up to double resolution.

Wow! Not familiar with this one. The colours that you've brought out are delicious, especially the warm tones in the centre of the bright region toward 2pm.

Reckon it gets even better if you set the black point about 5000 counts higher.

That's a fantastic rendition of this area. Really nice and super processing.

Greg.

Thanks, Mike. You're right! The full FOV had some darker areas that would have clipped but adjusting the black point of the crop made a nice improvement. I have uploaded a new revision to Astrobin.

Thanks very much, Greg.

Love the way the reflection neb comes out on this image. The black stuff, it's like ink, very cool but the overall composition is really very nice.

Top job

Lovely image. You weren't too far away from the area I've been working on in Monoceros. :) I like the colours and contrast of the dark dust lanes.

Ah... makes sense now. 800mm should do it nicely then with my 8" newt.

Thanks, Brett. It went on my list the first time I saw an image of it!

Just pulling your leg a little, Mike ;) I do check my decon very carefully these days, thanks to you

Thanks, Marcus! You should have seen the original stars :eyepop: The KAF-8300 microlenses combine with a short/fast scope seems to be a recipe for bloat.

Thanks, David.

Ta, Troy.

Look forward to it, Marc!

Thanks, Ross!

Thank you, Markus. It would be a good target for your Newt and new camera.

Thanks, Suavi.

I do intend to run another PI workshop up here this year. There are several people that missed the first intro workshop and it would be good to do a more advanced workshop too. I'll have to give some thought to the timing.

The big thing I learned from the workshop I gave at NACAA at Easter is that one day is really not long enough. Two days is more realistic for a detailed intro with lots of prac work. Ideally followed by another day of more advanced topics...

Thanks, Geoff!

I think everyone's mind would either melt, or finally enter the PI enlightened state. :)

Also, nice image as usual, really like the starkness of those inky black areas.
