Hi all,
Looking at downgrading or side-grading to a SCG setup.
I have for sale my setup which is a Sirius Optics 12" DOB purchased earlier this year. It is in very good condition and has been sitting in my bedroom when not used. The model is here:
http://www.sirius-optics.com.au/SCDobs.htm
Also have with this a Argo Navis purchased about 5 months ago.
In excellent condition as well.
Now the problem - I do not have the orignal box for the DOB, nor do I have any box in which to transport it. Therefore local buyers maybe interested in a pickup or looksie. People out of Mackay feel free to contact me.
Given my wife has indicated I haveto get rid of it fairly quickly, I am offering to sell it for $1000 for the lot. Yes, I recognise this is a extremely good price and have been told to sell it higher, but we share a small'ish bedroom and it has been there since purchased. It is really an attempt as best as possible to get rid of it, and at least get something for the SGC (eg ETX125 or preferably a higher model)

Um ...... Seeing as I had ambitions for an Argo Navis anyway ..... I think I had best be talking to my bank on Monday, I could always drive up from the Sunshine Coast and collect it.
I can't promise anything ... yet .... but I'll let you know as soon as I do!
It would have a very good and loving home, I promise!

Thanks for the replies.
Steve has PM'ed me to see if he is able to get it.
As I indicated my biggest problem is transportation. If it could be transported easily, then more buyers may be interested. Not sure what a box costs for a 12" DOB, but methinks it would be pricey, unless it is homemade.

I must admit this is very tempting, but I think your timing is off by
about a week lol.
G' Luck, I'm surprised it is still for sale

Actually Rob I have been communicating with Chris for a few days .... I leave first thing in the morning for a fast 2 day run to Mackay and back to pick up the scope.
I'm assuming about 12 hours driving each way (ie each day) so it will be a hectic weekend trip, but it will be great to meet another IIS member face to face as well when we get there! AstroRon is coming along for the drive too. It should be an interesting road trip all around.
Cheers!

Good for you Steve. I think you just pipped me at the post. I'm glad you did, the bank balance has been taking a bit of a pounding over the past 12 months

Congrats Steve,
Actually when it first popped up I asked the missus, hoping she might see the
benifits of the 12" for the kids and Argo Navis for me!, she said one thing "You
still want the 16" nuff said.
Anyways it was a great buy!! have a safe trip fellas, If Ron starts telling
them yarns I'm sure there will be alot of laughs.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts folks! Yes it was a bargain, and I have to thank Chris heaps for offering his fabulous scope package for sale in the first place, and for placing the trust in me (to all intents and purposes a stranger to Chris) that I will keep my word and follow through with the sale. That trust will not be abused Chris, and I look forward to meeting you tomorrow.
Ron arrived here earlier this evening, he's asleep on a stretcher in the lounge room at present and I'm off to bed in 2 minutes. I filled the long range tank in the car this morning (it took 125 litres of premium unleaded) and I'll top up the LPG tank first thing; overnight accomodation in Mackay is booked; and I'll try to remember to take my Hyperion 13mm ep along *wink* just in case it's nice and clear! Expect a new thread when we return with details of our road trip.
Mackay here we come!

Will this be a world Record, longest distance driven for a purchase of a telescope? ;)

Total trip distance approx 1900 km's - I drove all up in excess of 24 hours in a 35 hour period, has approx 5 hours sleep. Only real viewing?? The moon!
SOOOOO Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read about it here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=14512) - before the very patient moderators can us all for this misuse of a "buy and sell" thread.

Yeah,
I put the mocker on him by saying that the last few weeks were clear - the day he comes up - bang -weather change the night before and high level cloud cover comes over.
Ahh well.
Starting to miss the DOB already :( !!
Will see in a few months ;)
Good to catch up with fellow astronomers - AstroRon came up and I noted he is about 10 mins drive from the in-laws.
Actually I was er.... emailing Lee from Andrews about the 16" DOB Steve and Ron were talking to me about - it is a truss DOB, but different from Meades in the design - it uses three poles as opposed to the cross design Meade use. Expected in Jan 07 - Feb 07.

Steve - I think that scope really cost you about $1500 is fuel, accomodation, time and effort.

Ah it was a great trip Wiliam, one of those special "road trip" things that you occasionally have to just DO in life sometimes, against all reason.
LPG is cheap, and I ran on it virtually all the way there and back - some service station food, good clean but inexpensive overnight accomodation - I'd say $300 all up, it was all still a great deal AND Ron and I got to meet Chris too.
All in all, I'd give it 10 thumbs up on the Steveometer.
