I was out last night in the backyard as the sky was completely clear initially, so I was trying to do some imaging. However, as is the way with Brisbane this time of year, the clouds started appearing in the east. They quickly moved across the sky towards the west and the Moon.
Since it was patchy, I kept going with my captures, but I was watching the clouds more closely.
I then noticed a flash of light. At first I thought it was just my vision, then I managed to see a few more.
I was facing roughly north, and the flashes were in the clouds, from just west of north to probably a bit past the north west. There were none to the east, or to the west. I'm not sure to the south, since at first it didn't seem to have as much cloud and as I wasn't really interested in that direction, I didn't actively look.
I suspect I was seeing cloud lightning (heard nothing), but with it being confined to a specific portion of the sky, I did wonder if I might be seeing something with the moonlight momentarily reflecting off the clouds? This was happening around 9 to 10 pm Brisbane time, so the moon was starting to get towards the western horizon.
Any ideas?
