This is the globular cluster in Musca that lies near the end of the dark nebula popularly known as the "dark doodad". It's very open structured (concentration class 12) and somewhat reddened due to obscuring material in the vicinity.

Very fine, Steve. You've captured the special character of the beast. Pleasing composition and colour too. Interesting how the more orange stars (red giants?) seem bigger and brighter than the blue ones.
Best,
Mike

Thanks Mike. Possibly the orange stars are more prominent because of the interstellar absorption in the region which would tend to diminish the blue.

An interesting glob Steve. Nicely processed getting the golden coppery colours showing so well.

Thanks Rodney. As others have said, the blue star really makes this globular.
Thanks Paul
Thanks Greg. Most shots of this globular are wide-field showing all or part of the dark doodad. Of course I don't have the field for that.

Beautiful image Steve!
Must try this one, does the open structure make it easier to process? I know with dense globulars different exposure lengths are needed and the layered in to stop blowing out the image.
Cheers,
Justin

Thanks Justin. Open structure globs are probably easier to process because you don't have to worry about blowing out the centre so much. They don't get more open structured than this one as it has the maximum concentration class.
Cheers
Steve
