Had two great nights at Wiruna Sunday and Monday with Dean. Thanks for the company and no there are no axe murderers lurking in the woods. ;) Unusually clear for a new moon. :) Gear performed flawlessly which was great considering the user behind it was very rusted after a long period of inactivity.
I managed 4 hours on the horse head and a little less on M42. Thanks heaps to Mike (Placidus) for helping me with my colors.
Gear was FSQ106N at prime with QHY8 on G11. HH subs were 10min and M42 ranging from 10min down to 2min. The core is over exposed but that's how I like it for a wide field. The light distribution is more natural IMHO and I'm not trying to show the trap.

Nice images, Marc. I didn't detect any traces of rust :)

Thanks mates but the first few iterations had some traces of mold. :P

I did, thanks :) Two lovely images of two well imaged areas and I don't mind the blown trap either
Glad you had two successful nights at Wiruna, that alone is worth the effort I recon :)

Beautiful Marc.
Love the old classics of the sky, never tire of them.

Lovely sharp, colourful, and deep images Marc. Very 3 dimensional and a pleasure to look at.
Superb.

Great images Marc and it's good too see you still at it.

Great to see you back in the saddle, Marc. Absolutely lovely handling of the dynamic range in the M42 shot.
(Speaking of couples, your framing, rotation, and level of contrast has revealed two hitherto unknown graceful art-deco ballerinas in long flowing dresses, one with dark hair between the Running Man and M42, and the other with blonde hair at 8 o'clock from M42.)
Excellent work.

Top stuff Marc. Very jealous to think of you soaking up clear dark Wiruna skies. Pretty hard to get one night on Orion here for months, let alone more.
Great images for your efforts.
Rob
Great images, Marc. Enjoyed pottering around both images. Is that QHY OSC or Mono?

Well done Marc. The core of M42 has worked well I think as there is a soft/even transition across the dynamic range.

Thanks Mike. True. I can't remember the last clear new moon. Conditions were perfect this time.
Thanks Andrew.
Thanks mate. Never had a decent color HH so I'm glad I nabbed this one while it's still up. I had big plans this summer to do an Orion color mosaic but the heat and the weather conspired against it. Maybe next year.
Thanks a lot Trev. Glad you liked them.
Thanks Neale. Yeah I'm still here. Not as often as I would like though.
Thanks Mike. You'll have to point out or draw those ballerinas. I can't see them.
Thanks Rob. Well, NSW hasn't been spared by the clouds. January has been wet wet wet. Don't despair, I'll bring you some clear skies at astrofest 2016 ;)
Thanks David. Yes it is an OSC. QHY8 old body, the square one (http://tinyurl.com/hco3yq2).
Thanks Rodney . Yeah I tried to keep it smooth. M42 isn't easy to process I find.

Very cool Marc.
The M42 has diffraction spikes on it (which I like anyway) but it says on your post it was the FSQ106, not the GSO 8"?

Thanks Graham. Yeah I added them on the bright ones with starspike pro. I've always shot this with a newt or something with spider vanes in color in the past and I couldn't help it. Something was missing.
Thanks a lot Steve. I was happy with the level of details but I could do with double the amount of data. Oh well, next time. :)

Great work Marc!
Really picked up lot of faint stuff in both images, good colour.

Thanks Justin. Yeah I always get really good colour with that scope. Just bump up the saturation and it pops. Maybe I'm overdoing it a bit :)
Thanks a lot.

I'm a big fan of lots of colour, I'd probably increase saturation even more.
But that's me.
Cheers,
Justin.
