Hi
Spread the word - help reduce light pollution!!! We need to preserve our dark skies by reducing the excessive use of artificial light, e.g. streetlights, billboards, offices and factories to name a few. We want future generations to be able to see the Milky Way. PLEASE SIGN and SHARE as we need to get the message out NOW!

Most likely this will have no effect at all - the world today understands only the language of money (business, ads... ) and fear (light on our streets save lives.. etc.)..
But still, I signed the pettion

Great idea but nothing at all will come from it.
The light companies don't care for ideas that will reduce the sales of their product.
Get as much observing in as possible because the sky will never get better it will just get worse.

I signed, but (at the same time) I have to agree with Bojan.
Unlike Europe & elsewhere, at least here in Australia most of us can still get to a truly dark site with 1-2 hour's drive....

Are there any that are taking measurements of the sky brightness at their preferred dark site? I believe it could be done simply with a low-level light meter. Possibly by comparing frames from a ccd image of the same sampled dark sky area. It wouldn't take rocket science to design a simple investigation. Over a period of time this could provide solid evidence of this light wastage and pollution.

Had a comms from ASV about the LED replacement street lights asking to petition our local council to ensure they are less than 3000k in colour temp.
I shall be doing so after looking into it.

Not sure if signing a petition will make inner-city Sydney's light pollution better but one can try!

I just wish all the city lights could be turned off on a few clear nights with no Moon
every year so that most people could see the Milky Way for the first time in their lives -
then the light pollution laws might change as
people marveled at what has been denied to them.

If you want a dark sky then move to the country. When the next house is several km's away your sky is dark.
