I thought I'd lost this, I spent a lot of time working on an image of Theophilus in late December last year and then never got around to posting it... when I remembered it a few months later I couldn't find it anymore :-(

Anyhoo, I just stumbled across one of the final images in my Jupiter data, how's that for mis-labeled?

Details (as best I can remember):

10" f/6 newtonian
Dragonfly Express firewire camera
lots of frames (maybe 6000 or so?)
Captured under Linux with Coriander, processed under Windows with Registax
and Astra Image.

cheers, Bird

Excellent image, Anthony! Great tonal range and detail at an impressive focal length.

I remember this image - you were testing your ppmcentre MAP processing on this data weren't you? (which reminds me, how is that going? :D)

Thanks for posting it, it'll barely keep me going until you get your 13" back in action again ;)

Yes, that's right, this was my test image for the automatic multipoint alignment stuff I was working on. A couple of things have slowed me down on that - it's incredibly easy to introduce artifacts that show up in the end image, I don't have that completely solved yet but I keep finding improvements on it.

Also I had some problems when I switched to the new scope in January, couldn't seem to get the sort of image detail I needed to test this properly. Looks like that's sorted now and I'll be back in business shortly.

cheers, Bird

Beautifully sharp image Bird! Practically a macro compared to Jupiter!

Bird, that is a great pic!

It is the only image I have seen where the Mountain in the centre of Theophilus looks BIG! Other pics don't give it justice. It usually just looks like a little peak.

Well done.
