These were selected from a list of 323 PN brighter than magnitude 14.

1. The brightest PN by magnitude in order are:
NGC 6853 M27 is the brightest PN
NGC 3242
NGC 7293
NGC 7009
NGC 6572
NGC 6543
NGC 3918
NGC 7662
NGC 7027
NGC 6720 M57
NGC 6210

2. The largest NGC/IC PN in order are:
NGC 7293 is the largest PN
NGC 6853 M27
NGC 1360
NGC 246
NGC 3587 M97
NGC 5189
NGC 650/651 M76
NGC 1514
NGC 6826
IC 5150
NGC 2899

3. The nearest NGC/IC PN are in order:
NGC 7293 is the nearest PN
NGC 6853 M27
NGC 1360
NGC 246
NGC 3587 M97
IC 418
NGC 1514
NGC 6720 M57
NGC 6302
NGC 6572

4. PN with bright central stars are in order:
NGC 1514 has the brightest CS
NGC 3132

5. PN with high surface brightness (and size 6” or more) are in order:

These lists are excellent, Glen. It'd be great if you put them all in various articles so I can upload them to the website.

I will combine the 5 different types at the end.
I have left the hard ones till last, they will take some time.
OC are difficult to do because some of the bright ones are boring.
BN are very difficult because there are no magnitudes for most of them.

I always look forward to your list's Glen :thumbsup: I didn't realise M27 is the second nearest or the second biggest planetery. I would have to agree with it being the brightest, even an 80mm shows this object well. Apparently under dark skies M27 is visable with out optical aid and I have also heard NGC7293 is too?
