In an article today in Nature, astronomer Mariko Kimura et. al.
reports on optical oscillations on timescales of 100 seconds to 2 hours
they observed at the accretion disk of V404 Cygni (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V404_Cygni)which contains a black
hole of nine solar masses.
They have released a video dramatically showing the light fluctuations.

Up until now, X-rays have been detected being emitted from black-hole
accretion disks but this is apparently the first time optical wavelengths
have been observed being emitted from such objects.
The good news is that it has been suggested that amateurs
with instruments of 20cm or more should be able to observe
the "twinkle" of this black hole at V404 Cyg.
